ProMX Rules and Regulations
General Rules
These rules and regulations govern all ProMX events. Modifications may be made at the discretion of ProMX Group race officials.
Riders or guardians are responsible for knowing their limitations, riding within them, and understanding the rules.
Riders must be 100% mentally and physically fit to compete.
The Steward or Promoter is the event authority, responsible for event management. Changes may occur due to weather, daytime hours, or nighttime conditions.
Rider Classifications and Age Rules
Riders must compete in the highest classification they have ever achieved with any recognized organization.
A rider’s age on January 1 determines their age for the year’s events.
Riders may not return to a lower classification without Promoter/ProMX approval.
Once a rider advances to a higher age class, they may not return to a lower age class or ride in the Beginner class.
Event Entry and Spectators
All spectators must wear the provided wristband throughout the event.
No refunds or rain checks are issued after race day practice.
Riders must own or rent a MyLaps Transponder to participate in any event or access the track during a ProMX race (not required for practice).
Riders must display proper numbers on front and side number plates. Failure to do so may result in not being scored, with no protest allowed.
Even with a transponder, number plates are mandatory.
Flag Signals
All flag signals must be obeyed immediately. Non-compliance may result in exclusion, position penalties, or suspension by the Steward.
Green (Waved): Start
Green (Displayed): All clear
Yellow (Displayed): Caution, reduce speed, hold position
Red (Displayed or Waved): Stop all riders
Black (Waved at One Rider): Rider stop at finish line
White: Last lap
Black/White Checkered: End of race
Blue: You are being lapped, let riders pass you
Race Conduct and Safety
The starting method is determined by the Steward, Promoter, or Starter at the event’s outset.
Additional conduct regulations may be issued for specific events and explained on-site.
Once events begin, only peewee (50cc) races allow one parent or guardian per rider on the track or infield. No minors are permitted on the infield during races.
Riders cannot ride or walk the track or infield after morning practice begins.
Outside assistance is prohibited during races, except for 50cc Peewee classes.
Excessive alcohol consumption will result in removal from the event. Riders consuming alcohol, drugs, or smoking marijuana will be disqualified and removed.
Riding or pushing a vehicle in the reverse direction of the course is forbidden unless directed by an authorized official. Violations may lead to suspension.
Cutting the track inside markers or hay bales is considered cheating, with position penalties at the Promoter’s discretion.
Illegal machines, upon protest, may lead to suspension of the entrant, sponsor, and pit crew, with all points forfeited.
Racing in the pit area results in immediate disqualification and possible suspension. A designated warm-up area may be provided.
All vehicles in the pit area must move slowly.
Jumping the start or blocking a starting gate/line incurs a position penalty. Repeated violations may lead to disqualification.
Unauthorized participants on the course will face disqualification and/or suspension.
Entering the course outside the starting area during a race or practice results in disqualification for the day.
No practice starts are allowed at the start line for safety reasons.
Riders are responsible for the conduct of their parents and pit crew. Bad conduct may result in suspension.
The Steward/Promoter may exclude riders for foul, unfair, or dangerous riding.
Protests and Appeals
The ProMX competition committee has final authority to settle disputes, with decisions binding on all parties.
Protests must be filed in writing within 30 minutes of class results posting, with a $300 fee. Part of the fee goes to the teardown company. If valid, the remaining fee is returned; if invalid, it is forfeited.
Protested entrants found with illegal machines receive no fees for labor or parts.
Protests must be submitted to the Promoter/Steward. For unclear rules, the Steward/Promoter makes the ruling.
No protests are allowed against the Steward/Promoter’s decisions.
Only riders or entrants in the same class as the protested machine/rider may file a protest.
Camping and Facility Rules
Campers must follow ProMX Group or raceway regulations and have permission to camp. Camping is a privilege, not a right, and fees may apply.
Foul or abusive language toward officials by riders, family, or pit crew may result in disqualification and penalties, including suspension.
Mail or online entries must meet the Promoter’s deadline.
No entry transfers are allowed without Promoter or signup booth approval.
Participants must complete and sign an official entry form and insurance release at signup or online. All entries must be checked in before entering the race track area.
Promoters/Stewards may refuse entry to any rider or person.
Keep pit areas clean. If no garbage cans are available, pack out all trash.
Event Structure and Scoring
Motocross classes will ride at least two motos if time and conditions permit. Changes will be announced promptly.
Olympic Scoring: 1st = 1 point, 2nd = 2 points, etc. The rider with the lowest total points wins. Ties are broken by the best score in the final moto.
Series Points:
Riders moving up a class before the series halfway mark may take earned points, provided they don’t exceed the new class’s points leader.
After the halfway mark, riders moving up start with 0 points.
Injured riders stopping a race cannot re-enter that race unless approved by the Starter, Referee, or official but may enter other qualified events.
Riders starting but not completing half the laps are scored as last place plus two positions. Non-starters are scored as last place plus three positions.
Riders have two minutes to reach the starting line after a call. Failure results in exclusion from that moto only.
Non-starters receive no score for the event.
Motos may be shortened for safety or other reasons, with riders informed via PA system.
Starting on the wrong gate drop results in a last-place score.
